The 7th day of September was a unique one for 23 baby gorillas born between July 2017 and June 2018 that got their names during the 14th gorilla naming ceremony that takes place in Kinigi – Musanze District of Rwanda’s Northern Province.

Many namers are known in the world of tourism and conservation including

His Highness Sheikh Dr. Abdulaziz Ali Bin Rashid Al Nuami: Known as the “Green Sheikh”, Dr Abdulaziz has dedicated his life to traveling and environmental stewardship and he gave the name of Nayombi(exceptional customer care) to the baby gorilla.

Madame Graca Machel who is the former First Lady of South Africa and Mozambique. Graca Machel is an international advocate for women’s and children’s rights and she gave to the baby gorilla the name of Urugori meaning the crown which is a sign of respect of women in Rwanda culture.

On the list of the namers were the famous chinese couple that travel  all around the world, they are hosts of the popular online travel programme called ‘Lu Xing’ (On the Road).

Olusegun Obasanjo the former President of Nigeria could not miss the unforgatable moment of naming the gorilla and guess the name he gave to the baby gorilla?…his nickname “Aremu” which is a Yoruba appreciation given to him at his birth.

The name Arsenal was also on people’s lips due to the presence of its former player who was among the namers Laureano Bisan Etamé-Mayer known as Lauren.

In the evening of the same day, a Gala night was organized by the Rwanda Development Board(RDB) at the Kivu Serena Hotel.Faustin_15

Bellow are some nice images to illustrate the event’s mood…
